Hello and welcome to our autumn newsletter. The twists and turns of society’s standards of beauty are truly interesting and diverse. Previously, roles in Hollywood were purely for the young and under 50s. Now with the advent of sexy older women, such as Meryl Streep in It’s Complicated, we see the 50-plus age group is being celebrated in a style they deserve. At 63, Meryl looks great, romping through the movie as a testament to her good genes and self confidence. She clearly looks after her appearance, but it’s her confidence as an actor and as a middle-aged woman that is so powerful. There certainly is a link between our outward appearance and inner confidence. There is no escaping the fact we are all getting older, so let’s embrace it and commit to being the best we can at any age. In this newsletter we have details of some of the cosmetic medicine procedures to help you retain that inner confidence, including Botox for wrinkles, creating a fresh natural, relaxed look. This is the number one cosmetic medicine procedure worldwide, simply because it is so effective, non-invasive and relatively inexpensive – similar to the cost of a good hairstyle. We have a range of products to enhance the beauty of natural lips, including Restylane and Juvederm. These products can also soften wrinkles around the mouth. One of the most asked questions is the safe removal of moles. Moles are vey common and can often be removed by laser with much less scarring than surgical excision. This is a busy time of the year the North Sydney Medical Centre, with flu season fast approaching. This year the annual flu injection includes the swine flu and it’s important that everyone at risk is vaccinated. Many people are not aware of the 45-49 year old health check. The federal government has recently introduced a new health check, for everyone aged between 45 and 49, particularly those who may be at risk of developing a health complaint, like diabetes or heart problems. There is no cost for this service as it is covered by Medicare. Dr Phillipson and Dr Brown are both proud members of the Australasian Society of Cosmetic Medicine and continue to provide educational meetings to other medical professionals. Dr Sharron Phillipson is the medical convenor for the 6th National Laser and Cosmetic Medicine Conference to be held in September on the Gold Coast. at which there will be an extensive range of international speakers. |
